Circus Star Wallace Beery

At the age of sixteen, Wallace Beery ran away from home and joined the Ringling Brothers Circus as an elephant trainer and left two years later after being clawed by a leopard. He appeared in silent films and transitioned to sound under contract with MGM. His first wife was Gloria Swanson and they appeared together in |Sweedie Goes to College.| The Oscar for Best Actor was awarded to Beery for his performance in |The Champ| in 1931. He appeared in 250 movies and was a guest at Knowles Hill in the |30s.

Enjoy a brilliant Sierra foothills sunset from the Wallace Beery Room, or just outside on the porch swing for two. Silent film actor Beery was a guest at Knowles Hill in the 1930s. This room has a Full size Eastlake bed with an ultra comfortable mattress. Furnishings and fabrics in this room are Victorian with greens, blues, lavender, gold and cranberry. This room boasts views of the west lawn and the dense forest between Knowles Hill and the Sonora Fairgrounds. An adjacent dedicated bath is equipped with a tub/shower and sink featuring all their original 1927 fittings, and luxurious French milled shea butter soap and lotion, marzipan shampoo and conditioner, and a hair dryer.

Inside the Wallace Beery Room

This main floor room for two has a closet with an ironing board and iron. It is not far from the kitchen and dining rooms, so don't be surprised if the aroma of freshly baked bread, pastries and coffee comes wafting in.
