Circus Star Wallace Beery

At sixteen, Wallace Beery ran away from home and joined the Ringling Brothers Circus as an elephant trainer. Two years later, he was clawed by a leopard and quit. He appeared in silent films and transitioned to sound under contract with MGM. His first wife was Gloria Swanson and they appeared together in "Sweedie Goes to College." He went to appear in 250 movies and won the Best Actor Oscar in 1931 for his performance in "The Champ". He was a guest at Knowles Hill in the '30s.

Enjoy a brilliant Sierra foothills sunset from the Wallace Beery Room, or just outside on the porch swing for two. Silent film actor Beery was a guest at Knowles Hill in the 1930s. This room has a raised luxurious California-King bed with an ultra comfortable mattress. Furnishings and fabrics in this room are palatial with colors of gold, chocolate and wine. The wallpaper is hand-painted with gold gilt. The stunning antique gold & crystal chandelier and sconces are from Germany.

Inside the Wallace Beery Room

This room boasts views of the west lawn and the dense forest between Knowles Hill and the Sonora Fairgrounds. A private bath is equipped with a tub/shower and sink featuring all their original 1927 fittings, and luxurious French milled shea butter soap and lotion, marzipan shampoo and conditioner, and a hair dryer.
